Who was Frederick Douglass?
Frederick Douglass was born on February 1818 - February 1895. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in New York and in Massachusetts. He was an American writer, orator, statesman and social reformer. Douglass was also an activist and public speaker. What is a Daguerreotype? A Daguerreotype is a unique photograph on a silvered copper plate. It is not flexible and it’s quite heavy. The daguerreotype is accurate, detailed and sharp . It has a mirror-like surface and is very fragile. Douglass: Douglass might have wanted self portraits to be made of himself to show his emotions and how he felt during that time of his life. |
